“Director Richard Carroll does not shy from the gritty darkness of the material, guiding the cast to explore the murky shadows of their characters and the painful consequences of their choices.”

– Simon Parris, Man In Chair

“Carroll’s direction is clear and often striking… Laura Bunting and Kerrie Anne Greenland get absolutely everything right as Daisy and Violet. They move and sing as one so successfully it’s difficult to believe they haven’t been joined at the hip for most of their lives.”

– Daily Review

“Carroll has certainly succeeded in working with the actors to ensure that, in Daisy and Violet, the audience sees two distinct women, each differently natured and each with their own hopes and dreams.”

– TheatrePeople

“Directed here by Richard Carroll, this show about exploitation is careful not to exploit. His ensemble of performers – who open the show in the disconcerting number ‘Come Look at the Freaks’ – move with singular individuality… Carroll’s fiercely compassionate production pairs well with the new book, taking great pains to protect the Hilton sisters and grant them the dignity they were frequently denied in their lives.”

– Time Out

“Carroll has a clear understanding of the heart of the show – the journey of two sisters yearning for their dreams to be fulfilled… What Carroll’s direction brings beautifully to the forefront, is a poignant story about two sisters, cast out from society, (either marvelled at or alienated) who long to be accepted for who they are.”

AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE

This stunning story of sisterhood from the composer of DREAMGIRLS is based on the remarkable real-life story of Daisy and Violet Hilton.

Identical ‘Siamese twins’ who were joined at the hip, the Hilton sisters grew up touring America in a travelling ‘freak show’. But when their spectacular talent and charm was discovered, they became a national sensation and the highest-paid stars of 1930s vaudeville.

Laura Bunting (Elphaba in Wicked; Maureen in Rent at Hayes Theatre Co) and Kerrie Anne Greenland (2015 Helpmann Award winner as Eponine in Les Miserables) take on these two extraordinary roles in the Australian premiere of the acclaimed Broadway musical.

Daisy and Violet follow their dreams from the margins of society right to the very top, but for each of them one question still persists: ‘Who Will Love Me As I Am?’

“Beautiful and wrenching… The musical burrows deep into your spirit” – The New York Times
